Testing Services for Individuals

The School of Continuing Education's (SCE) Evaluation Testing and Assessment Department (ETAD) offers English and Arabic language proficiency tests. The scores obtained from these tests are used for placement decisions of learners in the programs of the SCE, Graduate School of Education, and School of Business, Executive Education. The scores can also be used for additional purposes such as occupational appointments, promotions, travel abroad, and scholarships.

Oral English Placement Test for Young Learners (OEPTYL)

The Oral English Placement Test for Young Learners (OEPTYL) is designed to measure the speaking proficiency of young learners for whom English is a second or foreign language. The scores obtained from the test are used for placement decisions of Young Learners into the different levels of the SCE CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference)-aligned English Language conversation program or other oral communication programs.

Online English Placement Test (OEPT) With Live Proctoring

The Online English Placement Test (OEPT) With Live Proctoring is online. It is designed to assess individuals’ communicative language abilities to place them into the different programs offered by the School of Continuing Education, the Graduate School of Education, and the School of Business of the American University in Cairo. OEPT With Live Proctoring is 130 minutes long. It consists of three sections: Listening (40 minutes), Reading (43 minutes), and Writing (47 minutes). The results will be issued by the next working day.

Online Arabic Admission Test (OAAT) with Live Proctoring

The online Arabic Admission Test (OAAT) is an online test With Live Proctoring. It measures the individual’s degree of proficiency in contemporary standard Arabic. Passing this test indicates that the applicant has the minimum language skills required to start studying one of The School of Continuing Education (SCE) translation programs or the career certificate in teaching Arabic as a foreign language (CCTAFL). The results will be issued by the next working day.

Online Oral English Placement Test (OOET)

The Online Oral English Placement Test (OOET) is an online oral test. It is designed to assess individuals’ speaking language abilities to place them into the different levels of the SCE English Language communication programs.

Online Standardized Arabic Proficiency Test (OSAPT)

The Online Standardized Arabic Proficiency Test (OSAPT) is a test that is based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which is an international benchmark used to describe language ability. OSAPT is designed to measure the communicative language ability of individuals who can communicate in Arabic. The scores obtained for the SAPT are used to determine the CEFR-aligned Arabic Language level for those who would like to apply for some of the School of Continuing Education (SCE) programs. The scores can also be used for additional purposes, such as occupational appointments and promotion. The results will be issued the next day.

Standardized English Proficiency Test (SEPT)

The Standardized English Proficiency Test (SEPT) is a test that is based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which is an international benchmark used to describe language ability. SEPT is designed to measure the communicative language ability of individuals for whom English is a second or foreign language. The scores obtained for the SEPT are used for placement decisions of learners into the different levels of the School of Continuing Education (SCE) CEFR-aligned English Language Program, Graduate School of Education, and School of Business (Executive Education) programs. The scores can also be used for additional purposes such as occupational appointments, promotions, travel abroad, and scholarships.

Three language skills are covered by this test, namely listening, reading, and writing. These skills address four main contexts of language use as defined by the CEFR – namely personal, social, occupational, and educational.

Arabic Proficiency Test (APT)

The Arabic Proficiency Test (APT) is a test that is designed to assess learners' proficiency in the standard Arabic language. It focuses mainly on Arabic vocabulary, grammar, structure, and writing.

Proficiency Test in Modern Standard Arabic (PTMSA)

Proficiency Test In Modern Standard Arabic (PTMSA) is a test that is designed to assess learners' proficiency in the modern standard Arabic language. It focuses mainly on modern Arabic vocabulary, grammar, structure, and writing. 

The scores obtained from PTMSA are used for placement decisions of learners in SCE teacher training programs.
