Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
This is an international certificate attained by professionals with a wide pool of exceptional knowledge and auditing and accounting skills. The CPA credential is a license that authorizes the holder to practice as a certified public accountant. It is an advanced-level curriculum requiring candidates to demonstrate accounting, finance, auditing, business environment, and regulations.

*One continuing education unit equals 10 contact hours.
The CPA program is composed of four sections:
- Auditing and Attestation: generally accepted auditing standards and other standards related to attest engagements
- Financial Accounting and Reporting: generally accepted accounting principles for business enterprises, not-for-profit organizations, and governmental entities
- Federal Regulation: taxation, ethics, professional and legal responsibilities, and business law
- Business Environment and Concepts: general business environment, business concepts, accounting implications
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the national professional organization for CPAs in the United States. Founded in 1887, AICPA provides educational guidance materials to its members and creates and grades the Uniform CPA exam.
Exam
One of the world’s leading licensing examinations, the CPA examination serves to protect the public interest by helping to ensure that only qualified individuals become licensed as CPAs.
CPA exam can be taken in any of the 54 jurisdictions of the United States. There are four testing windows in each calendar year during which the exam will be taken:
- January – February
- April – May
- July – August
- October - November
Each section may be scheduled and taken independently of any other section and in any order.
To register for the CPA examination, you should:
- Contact the National Board of Accountancy (NASBA) or your chosen state board directly to know the educational and work experience requirements (requirements may vary from one state to another)
- Fulfill the state requirements
- Fill out the examination application form and pay the required exam fees (fees vary for each state)
