Registration instructions and tips, coupled with a clear understanding of policies and procedures, lay the foundation for a fulfilling and successful academic experience.
For many years, the program has reflected competence in the principles and practices of internal auditing. It offers expertise and deep knowledge of setting standards for operations.
The CIA program is composed of three parts
Part 1: Internal Audit Basics
125 questions | 2.5 hours (150 minutes)
The new CIA exam part 1 topic tested includes aspects of mandatory guidance, such as the International Professional Practices Framework, internal control, risk concepts, and tools and techniques for conducting internal audit engagements.
Note: All items in this syllabus section will be tested at the proficiency knowledge level unless otherwise indicated below.
Part 2: Internal Audit Practice
100 questions | 2 hours (120 minutes)
The new CIA exam part 2 topics tested include managing the internal audit function via the strategic and operational role of internal audit and establishing a risk-based plan; the steps to manage individual engagements (planning, supervision, communicating results, and monitoring outcomes); as well as fraud risks and controls.

Part 3: Internal Audit Knowledge Elements
100 questions | 2 hours (120 minutes)
The new CIA exam part 3 topics tested include governance and business ethics; risk management; organizational structure, business processes, risks communication; management and leadership principles; information technology and business continuity; financial management; and the global business environment. Note: All items in this syllabus will be tested at the awareness knowledge level unless indicated below.
The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is a professional association of internal auditors involved in promoting professional growth and progress in the practice of internal auditing. It administers the CIA program, curriculum, exams, and grading.
Exam
The CIA exam tests your knowledge of current internal auditing practices, risks, and controls. The process of preparing for the exam will enhance your professional insight and strengthen your knowledge of the internal auditing profession. The CIA exam is offered in three parts, each consisting of 125 multiple-choice questions. The CIA exam is now offered in Arabic, English, French, German, and 14 other languages.

A bachelor's degree or its educational equivalent from an accredited college-level institution:
- Personal reference from a qualified individual
- Minimum of two years of internal auditing experience or an equivalent
