For the Love of Teachers

For the Love of Teachers

Teachers are one of School of Continuing Education’s (SCE) priority learners. The school recognizes that this often underappreciated demographic is one the most effective investment areas to propel development on the micro and macro scales. It is active in collaborations that share this understanding and commitment towards teacher development. Some date back decades, such as the NileTESOL association that just celebrated a quarter-century of empowering English language teachers. Others are more recent, but with the same impactful mission. Amongst them are SCE’s collaboration with the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) and Apache.

Building on previous success in public schools in Damietta, Mansoura, New Valley, and Qena, the NBK partnered with SCE to fund another round of teacher training opportunities. Affirming the impact-driven motive, the curriculum was updated in light of the post-COVID19 pedagogical circumstances. The training is delivered in Arabic to equip the teachers in the New Valley and Qena governorates with the essential knowledge and skills that help create independent thinkers, autonomous learners, knowledge seekers, creators, and challengers.

Apache

From a completely different industry but with a similar understanding; global hydrocarbon exploration mogul, Apache, also funded a teacher training program in partnership with SCE in Fayoum this spring. As a quality control and assurance measure, SCE conducted a needs analysis for the trainees' needs prior, as well as an anonymous learners' evaluation of instruction exercise mid-way and at the end of the program. This prompted the addition of new topics such as IT and gamification training, as well as modifying the final project to creating a collaborative resource bank of interactive lesson planning that is available all of them post-training.

It is said that teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together. SCE and its valued partners share this love and commitment.
