On February 19, 2020, the Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce met with the participants and alumni in two major State Department programs implemented by the School of Continuing Education. In the morning, she visited the English Language Mentors' program. A total of 150 English language specialists are working with two English language specialists from the United States of America and two additional language specialists from SCE on developing skills and approaches related to language instruction, curriculum design, classroom management, development of critical thinking skills and using data to support teaching assessments.

 

At lunchtime, the Assistant Secretary visited the AUC Tahrir Campus and met with alumni from the English Access Microscholarship program. The Access program provides a foundation of English language, cross-cultural, leadership and college readiness skills to talented 14-16-year-olds through after-school classes and intensive summer learning activities. AUC works with Access students from across Egypt. The Access alumni over the years have gone on to universities all over the world (including AUC) and interesting and prestigious professional careers.
