On completion, the learner can take a real multi-issue negotiation and prepare it systematically (interests, target/reservation point, BATNA, leverage), create value through options and trades, claim a fair share using objective criteria, manage the relationship and emotion under pressure, and close an implementable agreement demonstrated through an observed live negotiation and an individual defence at a 75% mastery threshold.

  1. Analyse a negotiation to produce a preparation brief that maps both parties’ interests, sets a target and reservation point, and identifies the BATNA and the sources and limits of leverage
  2. Generate value-creating options and multi-issue trades that expand the deal beyond a single-issue split, justified by the parties’ underlying interests
  3. Apply value-claiming tactics and objective criteria to secure a favourable, legitimate split while protecting the reservation point
  4. Apply relationship- and communication-management techniques during the negotiation to separate the people from the problem, surface interests, and de-escalate hardball tactics and emotion
  5. Evaluate and close the negotiation by testing for agreement, securing clear commitment, documenting the terms, and assessing the outcome against the targets and BATNA
