Making Sound Decisions Under Pressure and Uncertainty

On completion, the learner can take a high-stakes individual decision under pressure and uncertainty and make a sound, defensible call framing the decision, reasoning about options and risk with incomplete information, recognising and countering their own cognitive biases, deciding on time without freezing, and committing to, communicating and reviewing the decision demonstrated through a timed decision simulation and an individual defence at a 75% mastery threshold.

1. Analyse a decision situation to frame it correctly, defining the objective, the constraints, the decision criteria, and what a good outcome looks like
2. Evaluate options under uncertainty and incomplete information using likelihood, risk and scenario reasoning, and judge when information is sufficient to decide
3. Examine one’s own reasoning to detect the cognitive biases at play, and apply debiasing techniques to reduce their effect on the choice.
4. Make a timely decision under time pressure, managing stress and analysis-paralysis, and selecting an appropriate fast-versus-deliberate decision mode
5. Communicate a committed decision with its rationale, and establish a review loop to evaluate and adjust it — avoiding both flip-flopping and escalation of commitment
